The Complaint
In her official police complaint, Ananya highlighted the following issues:
- Fake Social Media Accounts: Following the announcement of the UPSC civil services 2023 results, where she secured the third rank, multiple social media accounts were created on platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and Telegram. These accounts uploaded images of Ananya in an attempt to impersonate her.
- Mentorship Programs: While the fake Instagram accounts gained a substantial number of followers, some channels on Telegram also offered mentorship programs under her name. Ananya clarified that she was not involved in these programs. These channels were even collecting money, which could harm the financial interests of innocent aspirants.
- Privacy Breach: Ananya alleged that the fake social media accounts were uploading her pictures, which amounted to a breach of privacy.
Legal Action
Ananya submitted proof of the existence of these fake social media profiles, leading to a complaint against the unidentified persons on charges of cheating, impersonation, and breach of privacy. The Cyberabad Cyber Crime ACP Ravindra Reddy confirmed that a case has been registered, and the police are investigating how many such profiles have been created and the amount of money they have collected from unsuspecting victims.
Ananya Reddy’s proactive approach in safeguarding her identity serves as a reminder to all social media users to remain vigilant against impersonation and privacy breaches. As we celebrate her remarkable achievement in the UPSC exams, let us also appreciate her determination to fight against cybercrime.
