Specialty of UGC-NET Exam 2024

University Grants Commission (UGC)- National Eligibility Test (NET) is a national level test through which Indian candidates are appointed to the posts of JRF, PhD and Assistant Professor according to various categories.

In case of Category 1 candidate can get JRF, Assistant Professor, PhD admission.

In case of Category 2 candidates can get Assistant Professor and PhD admission.

Candidates can get PhD admission in case of Category 3.

Eligibility Criteria for UGC-NET Exam 2024

Following are the eligibility criteria required to get a job in these vacancies:

Education Qualification

Educational Qualification of General/Un-reserved/Gen-EWS:

Master’s Degree or Equivalent Examination from recognised University under UGC with 55% marks.

Or 4 Years Degree Course with 75% marks.

Educational Qualification of SC, ST, OBC-NCL, PwD, Third Gender:

Master’s Degree in concerned subject with 50% marks.

Or 4 years Degree Course with 70% marks.

From now on 4 years bachelor degree passers can also give PhD and NET exam directly.

Age Limit

  • Candidates must be less than 30 years of age to apply for JRF post. (As on 01.06.2024)
  • 5 years age relaxation for reserved category OBC -NCL/ SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender/Women in applying for JRF post. Read the notification for other age relaxation information.
  • There is no upper age limit for candidates in UGC NET exam for applying for the post of Assistant Professor.
  • There is no upper age limit for candidates in UGC NET exam for applying for PHD admission.

Reservation Percentage in UGC-NET Exam 2024

UGC NET exam as per government rules have reservations:

SC 15%, ST 7.5%, OBC(NCL) 27%, EWS (general) 10%, PwBD 5% concession.

Read the notification to know the amount of reservation for others.

Application Fee for UGC-NET Exam 2024

Application Fee to Apply for UGC-NET Exam:

1150 for General/ Un-Reserved,

600 for Gen-EWS/OBC-NCL,   

325 for Schedule cast (SC)/Schedule tribes (ST)/PwBDs

At the time of online application, the application fee has to be deposited through net banking, debit card, credit card, UPI etc. online.

Exam Syllabus & Pattern in UGC-NET Exam 2024

Test Type:

The UGC-NET exam will be OMR-based.

Exam pattern

The UGC NET exam will be in two papers. Exam questions are objective type, MCQ type questions. There will be no break between the two tests. Each question is worth 2 marks, with no negative marks for wrong answers.

Steps to Apply for UGC-NET Exam 2024

  • UGC-NET exam application will be taken through online mode only so read the notification carefully before applying.
  • First apply for registration with email id and mobile number of the candidate.
  • Once the registration is done, the main application has to be filled, so the candidate’s name, identity card, date of birth, educational qualification, category, subject, examination center etc. information has to be uploaded.
  • After that candidate has to upload current photo (20kb-200kb) and signature (4kb-30kb).
  • Then go to the payment section and the candidate has to deposit the application fee. 1150 for General/Unreserved, 600 for EWS and OBC, 325 for SC/ST/PwBD. Deposit can only be done online through SBI, Canara, ICICI, HDFC etc. debit card, credit card, net banking, UPI etc.
  • Finally check all the information carefully and submit it and keep a printed copy as application document.
